SKR Management offers a free service that assists families in locating the best care according to their needs. There are many decisions families need to make when looking into long term care. There are:
1. Independent Living communities that offer fabulous activities and social interaction just perfect for those individuals seeking an active lifestyle.
2. Continuum of Care communities. These are large communities that offer independent living, minimal assisted living, moderate assisted living and also nursing care. The idea that a resident never has to leave his or her home, just relocate to another apartment or building on the same campus. Many of these communities offer a “buy-in” option where a resident can pay $250,000. or more to buy the apartment (condo) and sell it back to the community when they need to relocate. Some do not offer the buy back option as they offer a continued care campus to meet all of a residents needs.
3. Assisted Livings are designed to help residents with daily functions like bathing, dressing, eating, mobility. Some have nursing care on site, most don’t offer that service. The sizes vary from 1 resident in a private home, to more than 100 residents in individual apartments ranging from studios to 3 bedroom units. There are three levels of care that assisted livings are allowed to offer to clients. Level 1 is minor assistance usually in the form of coaching and cueing. Level 2 is moderate assist which offers hands on assistance like stand by assistance with bathing, toileting, administration of medications, redirecting a resident’s focus, guiding them to activities, dining room or bathroom. The highest level 3 is for those residents needing a lot of hands-on care. Most communities charge a community fee. This fee is a one time payment that is non-refundable. It is used to maintain the community’s common areas and can they range from $3,000.00 to $6,000.00.
Nursing home care is reserved for those patients needing 24 hour registered nursing care or treatment. Most seniors do not require a nursing home level. Most, can live happily with one of the options mentioned above. It is your responsibility to select which service best meets your needs.
As you can see, this can be overwhelming with the number of options
available. This is where we can help reduce the list to only those
communities that are best suited to meet the needs of your family
member. We have been in the health care industry for more than 15
years and we know how difficult it is to sort through the
information. Our focus is on prolonging independence, reducing
future moves based on health changes, and receiving high quality
care that meet the specific needs of our clients.
Each of the communities we refer to have been carefully screened by
our staff. They must meet and exceed our high standards, those
that we expect for our clients before we consider contracting with
them. We screen each community for their practices of staffing
(schedules, health, criminal background checks, Board of Nursing)
for quality care (check inspection records, community reputation,
on-site visits where we interview current residents and families to
assure satisfaction with the community. Finally we get a list of
services provided by each community. This includes the licensed
number of residents, level of care, fees, level of activities,
outside services, affiliations, size and types of housing
accommodations. We ask what nursing care is offered, what are the
discharge policies, assistance with scheduling medical appointments,
transportation available, security issues, any specialized
services. If the community meets our standards, we will offer them
the opportunity to join our network of quality homes that we refer
to. We only refer our clients to homes that we trust and know first
hand. Our referrals are homes that we would feel comfortable
placing our own parents in. That’s why our standards are higher
than other referral sources. We care.
